IRVINE, Calif. – Haskell & White LLP (www.hwcpa.com), one of Southern California’s largest independently owned accounting, auditing and business advisory firms, announced today that the firm’s IT Practice Leader Lee Barken has been nominated for the 2010 Beta Alpha Psi Business Information Professional of the Year Award.
A San Diego State University accounting alumnus (class of ’99) and former Beta Alpha Psi chapter vice president of communications, Barken was nominated by the SDSU chapter based on his renowned leadership in carbon accounting, IT auditing, internal controls testing and passion for the implementation of green technologies. His expertise was recently recognized on an international level when he was invited to participate in the United Nation’s COP15 Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark in December 2009.
“It is an honor to be nominated for this award,” said Barken. “My educational training at San Diego State University, along with the opportunity to participate in Beta Alpha Psi provided a solid career foundation encompassing community service, rigorous academics and personal growth.”
Barken serves on the board of directors for several non-profit organizations, including the U.S. Green Building Council and CleanTECH San Diego. Barken writes and speaks on his many areas of expertise including carbon accounting, green building, IT audit compliance, enterprise security and wireless LAN technology. He is the author of 3 books including, “Wireless Hacking: Projects for Wi-Fi Enthusiasts,” which was published in 2004.
Beta Alpha Psi, an honorary organization dedicated to the development and advancement of financial information students and professionals, has annually recognized individuals for excellence in the industry since 1974.
