Joe Zhao, CPA
Principal - Tax
With Haskell & White since: 2017
Joe Zhao brings over 17 years of public accounting experience to Haskell & White, with a strong focus on passthrough entity structures and strategic tax deferral and mediation planning.
Before joining Haskell & White, Joe was part of the Real Estate Tax Practice at Ernst & Young (EY), where he advised real estate development firms and value-add joint venture groups. Today, he provides both consulting and compliance services to real estate developers, homebuilders, REITs, and joint ventures. His experience also includes private equity buyouts of operating companies (non-real estate), multi-state taxation, and taxation for high-net-worth individuals and fiduciary entities.
As a Tax Principal, Joe is known for his straightforward communication style and proactive approach to tax planning. He encourages regular dialogue with clients to ensure tax strategies are timely, effective, and tailored — not built after the fact. He also enjoys mentoring team members and supporting the development of future leaders within the firm.
Outside of work, Joe enjoys traveling, snowboarding, and spending time with his wife and son.
